Chapter Information

The first steps to establish the first Asian-American interest sorority at the University of Central Florida took place in October of 2002 when a special group, NEXUS, was formed. Spearheaded by Huong Van, NEXUS became a vehicle to create the first Asian interest sorority in the Orlando community. Two defining reasons motivated her to make this vision a reality:
“College is one of the most challenging, yet defining times in one's life; having an Asian interest sorority would be able to provide a great support system and a home-away-from-home. A second reason inspired me to become a charter - spreading Asian awareness on campus. Being the fastest growing minority group in the United States, Asian-Americans have not seen much inclusivity on campus. Working with the Asian-American clubs at UCF, I have witnessed the lack of understanding with our student government. Compared to other Universities in the state, UCF is lagging behind in equal representation and funding. Having a presence in the Greek system will permanently weave the Asian-American community into the university infrastructure and will secure a voice for the underserved Asian-American students.”
Her vision to charter a sorority of that caliber was soon shared by Charlotte Dang, Wilma Miranda, Kathy Beard, Kady Tran, Susana Chui, Linda Van, and Chaileen Dionisio. After almost three years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work, on May 13, 2005 these strong women became the Elite Eight charters of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated.

Sisterhood
The sisters of Delta Phi Lambda feel that they are extremely privileged to be enriched with a close-knit sisterhood. We seek to reach out to young woman so that they, too, can be welcomed into our family and enjoy the benefits that we have to offer. Encouraged by the hope of seeing our ambitions being attained, we strive to promote every conviction of Delta Phi Lambda. Thus, the sisters are willing to reach out to female college students, near and far, to advance the quality of our organization. Some of the purposes of Delta Phi Lambda include promoting multiculturalism with an emphasis on Asian awareness, reaching out to the community as a whole, and embracing fellow collegiate women into a nurturing environment.
Academics
Academics is a very high priority to all of us. The minimum GPA requirement to be able to join Delta Phi Lambda is a 2.25. Active sisters are required to maintain at or above this GPA to be able to participate in various events.
Philanthropy
Not only do we care about the bonds within the group, we also care about reaching out to the community. We find enrichment in our lives through volunteering our time to the local community. Here is a list of service projects we've participated in the past:
- Adopt-a-Shore
- Lifecare Center
- 2nd Harvest Food Bank
- Boggy Creek Gang Camp
- Ripple Effect
